Springfield, Illinois - Mel-O-Cream Donuts is entering a new stage of family leadership as Eric Larson retires from his role as Chief Executive Officer after more than 50 years in the baking industry.

His son, Chad Larson, becomes President and Chief Executive Officer, while his other son, Chris Larson, serves as Co-President and secretary of the board.

The leadership change took effect Monday, Aug. 31.

Eric Larson begins his baking career while he is still in high school, working at a small bakery inside a local grocery store.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, he opens his own bakery in Stockton, Illinois.

He eventually owns three retail bakeries before moving into the industrial side of the baking industry.

His career also includes working with ingredient suppliers.

He served as Sales Director and Vice President of Sales at Henry & Henry, a supplier of fillings and icings.

His experience in sales and bakery operations later became an important part of his work at Mel-O-Cream Donuts.

Eric joined Mel-O-Cream Donuts as Director of Sales in 2004. In 2019, he became President and Chief Executive Officer after purchasing the company with his two sons.

Under his leadership, the company doubles its growth.

Chad said working with his father provides important lessons about patience, decision-making, sales, and understanding customers.

One lesson he continues to remember is that consumers eat with their eyes first, making product appearance an important part of bakery success.

The Larson family now represents three generations at Mel-O-Cream Donuts. Chad’s daughter, Sam Larson, also works for the company as an MES coordinator.

With Chad and Chris leading the business, the family plans to build on the foundation established by Eric while continuing the company’s long-standing bakery operations and values.
