Washington, D.C. - Two major baking industry groups, the American Bakers Association and the Retail Bakers of America, begin formal talks to create a planned affiliation structure.
The goal of this effort is to support growth across both commercial and retail baking while keeping each organization independent.
Under the proposed plan, both groups work together to build a shared structure that supports advocacy, education, and member services.
The affiliation focuses on finding new ways to share resources, improve efficiency, and strengthen the baking industry’s voice on public policy issues.
Leaders from both organizations confirm that governance and brand identity for each group remain separate.
The groups expect to finalize the structure details by mid-year.
The American Bakers Association continues to lead national advocacy, education, and business networking for commercial bakeries.
The Retail Bakers of America continues to provide hands-on education, resources, and support for retail bakeries.
“This will build upon RBA’s already close working relationship with ABA and strengthen our respective membership value propositions and organizational structures in support of each association’s strategic plans,” said Eric Dell, president and chief executive officer of the ABA. “This will provide RBA with operational efficiencies and support as well as create a unified voice with ABA on advocacy issues important to the baking industry. I’m most excited about the ability to keep RBA’s unique and valuable brand identity while also providing increased membership engagement and value for RBA members.”
RBA leaders also highlight the value of combining efforts.
They share that working together strengthens advocacy work and supports long-term industry growth.
The groups already partner on events such as the International Bakery Industry Exposition and joint advocacy visits.
Moving toward a formal affiliation, ABA and RBA aim to offer stronger support for bakers of all sizes while building a unified voice for the baking community.
