The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a large percentage of the population staying at home and eating at home. As we all know, in times of trouble and uncertainty, some people turn to food to comfort them as a guilty pleasure. CivicScience has recently polled Americans to find out what snack they seek most amid the pandemic and the results may make you hungry.

The number one comfort snack during the pandemic was chocolate with 26% of the people polled saying that chocolate was their most important comfort food.
Of course, chocolate baked goods are an important way for the baking industry to reach consumers and help them fill this comfort food craving.

Following chocolate closely in second place the results showed chips with 22% of the votes. Ice Cream placed third on the list with 17% of people polled saying Ice Cream was their most important comfort food. The list also included Fruits and Veggies at 16%, Popcorn at 10%, and Cake/Cupcakes at 7% -- another baking industry staple.

With the pandemic leading to increased snacking, it is no surprise that people are turning to their favorite comfort foods to help them through these uncertain times. At the beginning of the pandemic, people began baking their favorite goods, and with the number of cases on the rise again, it would not be a surprise to see people start baking their favorite comfort foods at home again.
