Ingredion Inc., the ingredient provider based in Westchester, Illinois has plans to take its ingredient supplying to a new level.

The company has announced that it will be acquiring the Thailand-based company, Sun Flour Industry. Primarily a rice starch and rice flour company, Sun Flour Industry is a popular rice and rice products supplier throughout Asia.

This acquisition will give Ingredion the opportunity to take rice, which the company has referred to as an “on-trend ingredient” and use it in a variety of ways.

Since rice is non-GMO, hypoallergenic and gluten-free, it is an ingredient that can be used in a variety of products including baby foods, dairy products, and gluten-free baking.

Sun Flour Industries is a reputable company in Thailand and is known as a part of Thailand’s agricultural history. This acquisition will increase its rice business and provide opportunities for growth.

Although the acquisition is still waiting to be approved by Thai government authorities, this acquisition will support Ingredion’s global strategy and provide its consumers with more variety of quality ingredients.

Once the acquisition is finalized, Ingredion will have a total of four manufacturing facilities in Thailand. Within these four facilities will include 870 employees, of which 120 will be joining the company from Sun Flour.
