Chocolate Cake May Be Joining the Breakfast Table in 2017

  • 14 October 2016

Chocolate cake may no longer be just an after dinner treat! It has been predicted that chocolate cake for breakfast could be an emerging trend for 2017.

This is as a result of two recent studies that demonstrated the health benefits of consuming cocoa in the morning. Syracuse University, located in New York, found that dark chocolate improves cognitive function, including abstract reasoning, memory and focusing abilities.

Liz Moskow, Culinary Director at Sterling-Rice Group and food trend expert, said “The thought was eating chocolate prepares you more for your workday, so what a better part [(of the day) sic] to incorporate dark chocolate into your meal than breakfast?”

Another study conducted at Tel Aviv University suggested that having dessert with your breakfast can support weight loss as it reduces hunger as well as cravings for the rest of the day.

Moskow believes that we will be seeing more dessert options on breakfast and brunch menus in the near future.

Not quite ready to indulge in cake in the morning? Try incorporating a little dark chocolate in to your breakfast menu with chocolate muffins, bagels or croissants!
