Bimbo Bakeries USA Expands South Carolina Facility

Bimbo Bakeries USA, the company behind brands such as Sara Lee, D’Italiano and Beefsteak is expanding its baking operations in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The American division is a subsidiary of Grupo Bimbo, a Mexico-based company.

The company plans on injecting $9.3 million into expanding its current facility in Orangeburg. The expansion will include new equipment and is expected to create 30 more jobs at the facility over the next five years.

“Bimbo Bakeries USA is excited to expand our baking operations in Orangeburg,” said Gordon Powell, plant manager of the Orangeburg plant. “Aside from its geographic advantage as a logistics center, Orangeburg has nurtured a business-friendly environment and a strong workforce that we hope will enable us to continue to grow in South Carolina,” he added.

The expansion is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The Orangeburg facility produces bread and rolls under the Sara Lee, Sunbeam and Colonial brands.
