5 teams selected for RBA’s Annual Pillsbury Baker’s Competition

The Retail Bakers of America is organizing the 16th Annual Pillsbury Baker’s Plus Grand Champion Creative Decorating Competition where creativity will take center stage. The competition is organized in Orlando, Flordia  October 14-15, 2017 during The Americas Cake Fair.The participants are professional cake decorators or pastry chef’s with two years of decorating experience.

 

Five of the country’s top professional teams were selected to compete with each other on the basis of skill, artistry and creativity over a two-day period of the competition. Each team consists of regional affiliate winners as well as top portfolio entries.

Teams will be judged in the following categories

  • wedding cake.
  • rolled fondant cake.
  • sculpted cake.

The winning team will be decided by esteemed panel of judges and will be awarded cash prize and Pillsbury Baker’s Plus Grand Champion Trophy. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the highest three scores in each category.

The five teams selected by RBA to compete are:

  • John Natter and Lisa Smith of Ann's Cake Pan in Horsham, PA.
  • Alethea Hickman and Elena Vara of the Passion for Pastry in Coral Springs, FL.
  • Belinda Martinez and Cythia Velazquez of Tthe Cake Plate in Austin, TX.
  • Diane Ahrens and Daisy Janisch of Piece-A-Cake in Chicago, IL.

Megan Bignell and Kyle Baker of Thirsty Whale in Minneapolis, MN Contestants will be provided cake, icing and fondant on site, but are required to bring their own tools and specialty items. The use of molds, fondant rollers and impression mats are unlimited and can be utilized in all the categories.
