The American Egg Board (AEB) conducted a survey earlier this month on holiday cookies. According to the survey, three in four consumers are willing to try and bake a new type of cookie during the holiday season. 



 

Meringues
These light and airy cookies help sweeten up the holidays. With their wispy texture and versatility, adding a flavor and color combinations can create endless unique options.

Spices
The survey found that more than half of consumers have considered adding exotic spices, such as curry and ginger to their traditional holiday recipes to add some flare to something old.

“Kitchen Sink” Cookies
The mix of savory and sweet made the list, with traditional recipes like chocolate chip cookies getting additions from nuts to pretzels or even potato chips for something new.

Gifting
Instead of grabbing a bottle of wine to bring to a holiday party, consumers are turning to baked goods, or not baked yet goods, providing ingredients to their favorite recipe in a jar to be baked at the receiver’s convenience.

Go big
Supersized and extra-large cookies are taking their place in this year’s trends. Never mind baking dozens of cookies when you can bake a giant one.

Savory Ingredients
Will the love affair with bacon ever get old? The popular breakfast ingredient is making its way into desserts whether it’s candied or not, bacon can add some crunch and different flavor to traditional recipes.

What this means for your business
Consumers are willing to try something new. As the holidays are a busy time for most – make it easy for your customers and create some unique holiday cookies that they can pick up rather than spending hours attempting to make in the kitchen.

AEB connects American egg farmers with consumers to communicate the value of eggs. Google Survey conducted the online survey for the American Egg Board, where 1,500 participants from the general population participated.
