New measures are being implemented in regard to packaging solutions for the bakery, deli, ready-to-eat and prepared food industries. The measures highlight the importance of security in packaging techniques. With the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) in agreement with implementing new packaging solutions, suppliers are recommending a new packaging method that has a tamper-evident and tamper-resistant feature. Recently at IDDBA show in Anaheim, Calif. Lindar revealed a new secure packaging solution known as ‘One case in Point’ for cakes and pies. These containers are termed ‘tamper obvious’ and the containers feature tabs that snap into place for both security and freshness. These containers range from 5 to 8 inches for round cakes, one-half sheet cakes and 6 to 9 inches for pies.

Anchor Packaging has included new sizes to its SAFE PINCH tamper-evident hinged packaging line, which has a “pinch to open” design and gives a visible and audible separation when the hinge is broken.

ClearPac SafeSeal tamper-evident and tamper-resistant containers by Dart Counter, were introduced with the same purpose of keeping food fresh. This new line includes bowls that highlight a feature in which after the hinge has been torn, it protrudes from the container but remains attached to be reclosed. In addition, for retailers who pack sweets and grab-and-go snacks, Inline Plastics has introduced 6 inch-by-6 inch SnackWare containers to its line of Safe-T fresh packaging.
