Maplehurst Bakeries To Acquire U.S. Cake Maker

Maplehurst Bakeries, a subsidiary of Weston Foods has agreed to purchase the leading maker of decorative cakes - Creative Occasions, Inc. Based in Nashville, TN, Creative Occasions was established in 2001 and produces 10,000 to 12,000 cakes per day.  It offers cakes in various shapes and sizes for a variety of occasions. Its facility is 65,000 Sq. Ft., which includes a 12,000 Sq. Ft. freezer. Creative Occasions supplies its products to in-store bakeries across the United States.

A subsidiary of George Weston Ltd. - Maplehurst Bakeries, is based in Indiana and manufactures a variety of bakery products. It produces breads, rolls, donuts, pies and cookies, and supplies its products to leading bakeries and stores across America. Some of Maplehurst’s leading brands include All But Gluten, Country Treat, Plush Pippin and Rubschlager.

The details of the deal have yet to be disclosed, however, the transaction is expected to close at the end of the month. Kevin McDonough, President at Weston Foods’ Frozen and Biscuit Divisions stated that this is a strategic move planned for business expansion. As Creative Occasions makes cakes with customized decorations, the acquisition will add new talented people, and products to the Maplehurst team. He also added that the acquisition of Creative Occasions will offer a new portfolio of quality products to customers.
